Keep Your Home Clean After Moving

Keep Your Home Clean After Moving

At Champion Movers, we know that moving from one home to another can be a tall and exhausting order. You spend weeks leading up to your move packing away boxes and dealing with the clutter built up over the past few years, and by the time you move, you’ll have to do it again. Luckily, moving homes gives you the perfect opportunity to start from scratch. Keep carpets, clean counters, and empty rooms give you a clean slate and a clean home. But how can you keep your home clean after moving? When your belongings arrive at your new house, you will be overwhelmed with clutter and mess.

Start with Small Changes

If your house is a mess after moving in and you have boxes and boxes left to unpack, you might be overwhelmed by the idea of cleaning your home from top to bottom. That’s okay. There are still ways that you can get the whole house done without the stress.

Simply begin with small changes first. Clean one mess and move on to the next when you finish. This could take a few days or even a couple of weeks but chip away at tasks until they are completed. This does mean that you have to be careful not to create more of a mess while you do it.

Unpack one room at a time, focusing on specific tasks such as hanging up all of the clothes or putting all of the dishes, pots, and pans in the kitchen cabinets where they belong.

Leave It at the Front Door (Your Shoes…)

Don’t want dirt in your home? Don’t bring it in! That’s much easier said than done, but there are ways to minimize how much dirt you track into your home. The best way to do this is to leave your shoes at the door when you walk in.

While moving, you can lay down tarps in your home to keep dirt out. After the move, you can invest in shoe storage to leave by the door for your friends and family.

Get Rid of Clutter Before You Move!

If you’re like a quarter of Americans, clutter is an issue in your home. Whether it is out of sight and out of mind or driving you nuts because you have nowhere to store it, there is a good reason to get rid of it before you move. We always suggest going through your items and getting rid of items that you haven’t used (in a year or so…). You can donate these items or decide to have a yard sale. At the end of the day, you don’t need to bring the mess; you may give those items new life elsewhere. That’s a win-win.

Make Your Bed and Do Your Dishes As You Go

Now, this one seems obvious, but you would be surprised how much better-being home feels when you come home from work, your bed is made, and there are no dishes in the sink. Even if there are still boxes to unpack, your home will look cleaner, and you will feel better too!
